| The Virginia Creeper is a great trail for anyone of any skill level! |
|
| The Virginia Creeper Trail is a great, rail to trail that rides from Whitetop Mountain all the way to Abingdon, VA. The trail is beautiful year-round, but the busiest times are usually in the summer and fall months. The majority of visitors who ride the Creeper Trail catch a ride to Whitetop and ride the 17 miles downhill back to Damascus. Our good friends at Blue Blaze can help you get situated with a rental bike (if you need it) and a shuttle ride to the top. If you're feeling energetic, the incline is not that steep, and many choose to ride up the trail for a good work out.
The section from Damascus to Abingdon is relatively flat and, therefore, not as popular. The scenery is just as beautiful as the Whitetop section, but is much more exposed to the elements and can make for a hot ride on a summer day. Shuttles can be arranged for pickups in Abingdon, if transportation is your concern. The trail ends right in the center of town, and there are many cool things to check out in downtown Abingdon. If you're hungry, look into Pop Ellis' Soda Shoppe, or the historical Tavern for a noticeably fancier meal.
